Why do indie filmmakers love zapsplat.com so much?

Recently we polled 1,600 members on what they use our sound effects for and the results came back with a whopping 26% using us for their indie films. We had an idea that filmmakers equated for a high percentage of our members, so this data confirmed that. So why do so many independent filmmakers find zapsplat.co so useful? We asked a few of them and here is what they said:

I’ve been making my own shorts for a little over a year now and it is safe to say it’s a hobby. So because I have to squeeze this into my busy life (I’ve a full-time job and 2 kids), spending time in post production tends to be taken up with editing the visuals, not so much sound. So to find a website like yours that has so many sounds that are useful, means I can zip in and out and take what I need as and when I need it. It probably saves me 25% of my time, leaving that free for visuals.

The foley sounds are probably the ones I take most often. I LOVE the versatility as there are just so many awesome everyday sounds. I recently had to add sound to a dentist scene and I was surprised to find so many sounds for the drills and other equipment. I was also able to use some chatter for the waiting room from zapsplat. Top marks guys

Hello zapsplat and thanks for the great free sound effects. Why do I find the library so useful? Simple, because you’ve never let me down. For a year or so now I’ve been impressed with everything you do. Everytime I come back, and that’s weekly, I find you have even more sounds added. I make local videos for local firms, so all the work I do represents businesses and it seems no matter what I need, you’ve got it. Sometimes I have to be creative (as an example I has to use the sound of a door creek for a wooden boat the other day) but that’s the beauty of you, whatever it is I need, it’ll be there in some form or other, Thank you!

So I make animations and post them mainly on YouTube. Just for fun, but I am learning and hope to do it commercially soon. I can normally locate the sound effects for my videos on your site and the variety is just fabulous.

I needed dinosaurs for my film. I found dinosaurs that I could use in your library, and they are free. I needed dogs and cats, and I found dogs and cats. I could really use more music which is the only category I have found lacking, but other than that, all good. Not criticism, because you have saved my bacon on numerous occasions. Thanks for the totally fantastic resource.
