It’s been a busy morning here at zapsplat.com, and we brought in with us today a set of steel roofing brace strips to play with. The reason? They sound just like sword impacts when hit together.
So, that’s what we’ve been doing. Yes, you might just say it’s boys being boys and having fun, but that’s why we got into this job in the first place, so we don’t have to do any ‘actual’ work!
We started by recording some general light impacts, and got gradually more aggressive. We recorded scrapes and releases too. In total we’ve edited down 11 variations so far which can all be found in our free sword sound effects category.
While we were at it we also took it upon ourselves to record us hitting anything else metal we could find, including the RSJ that supports our roof. It’s still standing, if you’re wondering. Must hit harder next time!
Last night, while the kids were getting far too excited about Halloween, I snuck into their candy reserves and (honestly without eating any… honestly) recorded some shakes, movements and general handling noises. These free sound effects can be found here.
That was just a quick update of what we’ve been doing today…. more tomorrow!
