Since launching zapsplat.com in 2015, we’ve been using the HTML 5 download attribute for managing the download of our sound effects and music, which is a new system for downloading files from web pages in a streamlined way. However support for the attribute through browsers, while good, still has issues with older browsers and those no longer in development but still in use (like Internet Explorer).
Safari on Mac was one of the last browsers to adopt support for the attribute and while it is now working with Safari 10.1+, for some reason we still were seeing issues and many of our members just couldn’t download with Safari. From the number of complaints we were receiving about this, we realised we had to fix the issue. It was therefore pushed to the top of our development list and I’m please to say we’ve just rolled out a new system that (should) work across all browsers.
Fully tested in every mainstream browser, our new system fixes all the old issues and now users of Safari (because many of our members are creatives, many use Macs and therefore Safari too) can download hassle free.
Please report any bugs
If you notice any issues downloading, please let us know so we can investigate and fix the issue. As stated, we’ve tested this in all mainstream browsers, however users still using older versions of IE or even lesser known browsers are urged to let us know and report any issues. Our developers will be able to fix them straight away.
Happy downloading 🙂
