Another few days have passed and more free sound effects have just been recorded and added for you to download and use in your projects. As usual, they are available as both mp3 files for Basic members and .wav files for Gold members. I’ll be out recording many more sounds this weekend and adding them over the course of Sunday and Monday. Next week I’ve some interesting recording sessions lined up, so watch this space for more information on that.
Here is a breakdown of some of the soundfx I’ve just uploaded…
Wet towels
This may sound a strange one, however the realisation these sounds may be useful came from a short film about survival I was watching this week, where some people where washing items of clothing in a river. There were several different takes, from dipping the towel into water and removing it fast, dropping it on the ground and also squeezing it to get some really nice squelch sounds. In fact I realised that these would be great if mixed with some impacts and other harsher sounds and used as cartoon squelches, hits, body impacts and more. I’ve scheduled in a day next week to record more of these and ix them with some hits and impacts for this very purpose.
Ocean waves
If you’ve ever searched zapsplat.com for ocean sounds, you’ll realise there are a fair few already. I try and get down to the beach at least once a day for a walk, so I took my AT825 microphone with me one morning to see if I could record any new ocean wave sound effects. Luckily, my local beach is about 40km long, so it’s fairly easy to find a spot with no people. I recorded some 1 minute long soundfx of surf washing up right under my feet. Because the surf was breaking fairly far out, the white wash was reforming as smaller waves that then would break gently on the shore. I got several takes of these from different angles.
I also got some recordings at about 20 metres away from the surf which would work well as general beach ambience backgrounds.
Badminton rackets and shuttlecocks
I didn’t realise we were lacking some badminton sounds in the library until last week when a member asked if I could add some shuttlecock being hit by a racket sounds. So I added a couple of those and while I was at it, I also recorded some other sounds including the racket sleeve zipper and some swooshes. On the day of recording I managed to break the shuttlecock after just two hits, so I’ve scheduled in some time next week to record some more.
Rainforest rain
You may have read my last blog post where I talked about getting caught short up in the rainforests and getting soaked through and almost damaging some equipment. However even though the trip was a disaster in that respect, there are a couple of free rain sound effects that I’ve uploaded. They are useful as forest rain or can likely be used for rainfall in other locations too.
Lilo and rubber ring sounds
There are several new recordings of the rubber squeaks made when you squeeze and handle a lilo or rubber ring. I also recorded the sound of a small children’s rubber ring being inflated and deflated. There are movements on water too, which combine the squeaky movements with water splashes!
Bicycles
Lastly, I almost threw out two old children’s bikes this week without spending any time recording them. So, there are now lots of new pushbike sound effects in the library, from drops, crashes and impacts through to peddling and sprocket clicks. They are available here.
That’s all for today. I’ll be adding many more free soundfx in the next week, so check back soon for more.
