It’s been a couple of weeks since my last blog post and even though I’ve been quiet, it doesn’t mean things have slowed down here at zapsplat.com. We’ve just had the Easter break and that means my 4 children are off school and waiting to be entertained, but between the fun and games I’ve been hard at work recording and editing loads of new sound effects. In fact, I believe we’ve added almost 600 new sounds in that time! Not only that but we’ve had some amazing submissions from Marcel and Libby at freetousesounds.com which we’ll talk about below.
Free to use sounds
Still on their journey around the world and recording some pretty stunning sounds at the same time, FTUS have sent us a load of new soundfx which have been uploaded and added to the library. Their recent travels have taken them to Bali and while we already had a few sounds from there, the collection has just grown a whole lot more.
The latest sounds on offer include fantastic rural ambiences, such as this one waterfalls, traffic, weather, street markets and loads more.
As always, go check out their profile page for a full list of sound effects to download here.
Large plastic tub fun
A neighbour brought round a huge plastic tub she must have had lying round the house and no longer needed. It had been sitting on our verandah for a few days before I even realised it was there, but as soon as I saw it I knew it presented lots of recording opportunities.
First up was it being filled with water, then movements, then the water being tipped out. I chucked it into the swimming pool, recorded it floating, splashing around in the water and lots more. Finally it was thrown around and the impacts on concrete recorded. You can listen and download them free here.
Footsteps galore
I was asked many months ago to provide more footsteps in the library which I’ve been working on for a few weeks now. But these last few days have seen many more footstep soundfx added and we now have several hundred for you to choose from. I do try to record variations of walking, running etc when working on these, but many of you have told me you prefer single footsteps that you can then sync to your movies, games and apps etc as required. Therefore I now mostly try to provide at least 8 single footstep sounds per surface and also sequences of walking, running etc.
Recent recordings include footsteps on gravel, dirt, metal, wood, concrete, paving slabs, carpet, cardboard, paper, beanbags and more. They can all be found here https://www.zapsplat.com/sound-effect-category/footsteps/
Paper
I love recording things that can be manipulated in different ways and that are highly useful to our members. Water is probably top of my list, but paper is another that’s high up. Don’t ask why, it just always has been. So I set aside an entire day to record paper sounds and the result is well over 100 new scrunches, rips, folds, impacts and more. You’ll find them all in our paper and card category.
This week we reached 23,000 free sound effects and it looks like we will make 24,000 by the end of the month. Well on our way to 30,000. That’s it for today, more updates tomorrow.
