What a great way to start the week! We’ve just added some fantastic new sound effects for you to download for free. This weekend I visited the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and got some fantastic recordings. Also Marcel Gnauk and Libby from Free To Use Sounds are still working their way around Indonesia and have sent in some amazing new ambiences and other sounds for you. Below is more information:
Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
This weekend I took a trip down to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane. I went a year ago in a fairly jet lagged state (we’d only just arrived here in Australia after emigrating from the UK) so we really didn’t get a chance to appreciate the place. The park itself was established as a refuge for sick, orphaned or injured Koala bears in 1927, a time when the animals were begin culled for their fur. Luckily this is no longer practiced, but the park still does a fantastic job at helping protect these amazing creatures.
It’s not just Koala that inhabit the park, as there are also many other animals. I took with me a Zoom H5 and while the trip was mainly a family day out, it’s impossible for me to not be armed with a recorder to capture any sounds I can.
I started by recording some general ambiences. These started at the reptile and platypus area, a small internal space that is bustling with excited children and adults. I simply recorded the general ambience which also included the whir of a fan close by. This was the end of summer but still a very warm and humid day (around 33 degrees) so I think many of the visitors were heading into the air conditioned rooms.
Once I’d recorded this, I also recorded many other general ambiences, some sounds of Koala moving about in the trees and the sound of some cockatoos. These are all free to download and use.
Indonesia
Marcel and Libby from Free To Use Sounds are still on their world travels and are currently in Bali, Indonesia. As always, they are sending us their sounds and we are trimming them down into smaller files for you to download. If you prefer the unedited raw recordings, you can grab them from their website here.
I asked Marcel if he could record a specific street for me which is the one directly outside the entrance to Kerobokan prison. The only reason I asked this was because I have seen several documentaries on the prison and the street outside always sounded so lively and buzzing.
Marcel sent over some long binaural recordings which I’ve selected some sections of and added to the library. They can be downloaded here.
There are also other new sounds too, including a cement mixer, roosters and more. Checkout their profile to listen and download them all.
That’s all for today. I’m going to try and start adding sounds 7 days a week from now on. This means recording more during the week so that we can add extra over the weekends. Please do send any requests as usual via our forum and if I can, I’ll create them for you.
